An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and proactive Assistant Diary Manager to join a busy and well-regarded set of Chambers. This is a key role within the clerking team, supporting the Head Clerk and Senior Management Team in the effective management of Counsel’s practices, whilst ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the clerks’ room.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organisational ability, sound judgement, and the confidence to manage competing demands in a fast-paced professional environment. They will play an integral role in maintaining high service standards to both members of Chambers and professional clients.
Job Title: Assistant Diary Manager – Full Time Position
Reporting to: Head Clerk
Starting salary: £36,000 to £39,000 (depending on experience)
Location: Manchester
Holiday entitlement: 25 days plus Bank Holidays
Key Responsibilities
- Taking responsibility for the effective management of the Clerks’ inbox, ensuring enquiries are prioritised, allocated, and responded to appropriately
- Supporting and overseeing diary management, including advising on and resolving diary-related queries.
- Proactively managing Junior Counsel diaries, ensuring papers are received in a timely manner and that appropriate follow-up action is taken where necessary
- Assisting with the allocation and booking of hearings, conferences, and other professional commitments
- Representing Chambers at marketing and networking events, supporting business development initiatives
- Supporting Chambers cyber security framework, including all Information Technology
- Handling telephone enquiries with professionalism, providing clear and confident assistance to solicitors and other professional clients
- Managing the exchange and filing of Skeleton Arguments, ensuring compliance with court deadlines and procedures
- Providing direct support to the Senior Management Team and Head Clerk, including involvement in operational and strategic tasks as required
Key Skills and Experience
- Previous experience within a Barristers’ Chambers or a similar professional services environment, ideally within a clerking role
- Strong understanding of diary management, court procedures, and the demands of Counsel’s practices
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively and manage competing demands
- Confident communicator, able to deal professionally with clients, Counsel, and court staff
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong IT proficiency, with the ability to engage with systems, databases, and external providers
- Ability to work independently, using initiative and sound judgement
