Byrom Street Chambers – COVID19

Byrom Street Chambers is carefully monitoring the situation regarding the coronavirus.

Due to recent developments we ask that you or others in your team including lay clients and experts do not attend face to face meetings (conferences, JSM’s, Mediations etc) in chambers if any of the following criteria apply:

  • You have visited a high risk area as listed below in the last 14 days.
  • You have been in close contact with someone who you know has been to one of these areas in the last 14 days.
  • You have been in close contact with a confirmed or suspected case of the coronavirus, in the past 14 days.

The above apply even if you have no flu-like symptoms.

We appreciate that these arrangements are potentially disruptive. However, we hope you will all understand that these decisions are made as we owe a duty of care to our colleagues and clients and that in the case of many of the individuals affected, attendance by telephone may be more appropriate. Please contact the clerks room to discuss logistics if any of the above apply.

The following areas are considered high risk:

  • Mainland China
  • Iran
  • Italy
  • South Korea

As the situation develops in the coming days and weeks, we have in place a contingency whereby a skeleton staff will remain on site, with the remainder working remotely.

Should the need arise, we want to assure you that all Barristers and Staff are able to work remotely. It is possible to accept instructions electronically and any meetings can either be conducted over the telephone or via Skype.

Equally in the event that access to the Courts become limited, then we have the capability to conduct hearings over the telephone or via video link/Skype where appropriate.

We are constantly monitoring, and will always adhere to, the official Government advice but are determined that the effect of any disruption on our clients is kept to a minimum.

If you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our Senior Clerk, Steve Price on 0161 829 2100 / 07949958205 or steve.price@byromstreet.com
