Job Title:  Administrative Assistant – Full Time Position

Reporting to: Senior Clerk
Starting salary: £19k to £21k
Location: Manchester
Holiday entitlement: 20 days per year rising with years of service

 

Job Description:

Byrom Street Chambers is a specialist set of Chambers consisting of Queens Counsel and Senior Juniors rated in all the Legal directories as the go to Chambers in the areas of work in which members practice.

 

An opportunity has arisen to recruit an administrative assistant to join our dedicated clerking team.

 

The successful candidate is someone who will be able to support the clerking team in the administration of barristers’ work, to assist with practice management and clerking function. Evidence of client-care skills is required and the successful candidate will be expected to develop relationships with Counsel and Solicitors.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for a resourceful, enthusiastic and motivated individual who has the ability to work closely and effectively as part of a dynamic team.

 

Experience of work in a Barristers Chambers is not a necessary requirement. We are looking for an applicant who has the ambition and dedication to succeed and progress in the role. Applicants will be expected to have a working knowledge of IT and a willingness to make full use of Chambers IT systems in day to day work.

 

Key duties will include:

 

  • Assisting in the operations of the clerks room, including copying, printing and dealing with post
  • Entering information on the LEX diary system promptly and accurately regarding new pieces of work and extracting information from emails
  • Preparation of hard copy and electronic bundles
  • Answering the telephone, greeting clients and assisting in the preparation of conferences within Chambers
  • Assisting Counsel with the delivery of their documents to and from court and other hearing venues
  • Assisting Chambers Administrator
  • Assisting Fees Clerk with fee collection
  • Assisting Counsel and Clerks with any administrative requirements
  • Assisting the Senior Clerk as and when required

 

Essential Criteria:

 

  • Ability to input data accurately and efficiently
  • Previous experience in an office environment
  • Ability to work within a small team
  • Excellent GCSE Grades
  • Willing and eager to learn with the ability to take instructions
  • Confidence in learning new software and systems
  • Ability to prioritise and manage fluctuating workloads and demands
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
