Professional Discipline
Chambers has wide experience of professional discipline, including disciplinary proceedings against doctors, the police, fire officers, ambulance crew, probation officers and customs investigators. We advise clients on the consequences of adverse findings of fact and challenges to those findings. We advise the relevant authorities on the structure of proceedings and the consequences of particular findings of fact.
We are experienced in Judicial Review arising from disciplinary proceedings regarding both substantive findings and procedure. We also have experience of public inquiries arising from police activity, in terms of representation during the inquiry and submissions to the inquiry at the draft report stage where officers have received a Salmon letter.
Members of Chambers regularly appear before the regulatory panels of the General Medical Council, in particular Fitness to Practise panels, and have been involved in cases in which doctors have been alleged to have been involved in dishonesty, plagiarism, inappropriate relationships with patients, ill health and inadequate professional performance, as well as acting in appeals from the decisions of such panels. Members of Chambers have extensive experience before other regulatory bodies including the Solicitors’ Regulatory Authority, the Care Standards Tribunal and regulatory committees for the NHS
