Personal Injury

Rhiannon acts for Claimants and Defendants in substantial or complex employers liability, public liability and road traffic accident claims. She is particularly sought after for her expertise in high value spinal and brain injury cases. Early in her career she appeared as junior counsel in Biesheuvel v Birrell (1999) PIQR Q40 and this was followed by instructions in many high value spinal injury cases, notably Owen v Brown [2002] EWHC 1135 (QB), Parry v Humbert (2005) and Streeter v Hughes and MIB [2013] EWHC 2841. She has continued to specialise in the whole spectrum of catastrophic injury claims since then.

Rhiannon is also regularly instructed in chronic pain, subtle brain injury cases and fatal accidents.

She has extensive experience in investigating contributions from public funding in cases where contributory negligence is an issue.

She regularly acts in claims with a foreign element including cases where the Claimant lives abroad after the accident and she has had to gain an understanding of care systems, health funding and insurance provision in these countries and the implications arising from these so far as the damages claim is concerned. Recently settled claims involve Claimants living in the United States and Poland.

Rhiannon has also been involved in a number of cases where the initial injury has been complicated by subsequent negligent medical treatment and issues arising as to the interaction of the various defendants. Expertise in the management of the expert evidence in such cases is vital.

She has dealt with a number of cases where fundamental dishonesty has been raised.

She regularly appears in contested interim payment applications. (See Hardman v Davies [2019] 11 WLUK 470 and Farrington v Menzies Haines [2019] EWHC 1297 (QB))

Clinical Negligence

Rhiannon is instructed to advise and represent patients and their families in clinical negligence cases. Her caseload covers a wide spectrum of medical accidents, including birth trauma, delayed diagnosis, failure to diagnose cardiac conditions, consent and failure to act upon information that previous anaesthetic had caused serious neurological complications.

Professional Liability

Rhiannon's professional negligence practice relates exclusively to actions against legal advisers arising from their conduct of personal injury and clinical negligence cases.
